TOMATO ADVENTURE

Gimmicks serve as your main form of offense in Tomato Adventure. Each Gimmick is unique, both on a visual and technical level. Once you select a Gimmick to use in battle, you will need to complete a short "minigame" to successfully pull off its attack. There are five types of categories that classify the Gimmicks based off of their minigame gameplay. These are; Timing, Tap, Speed and Excite.
Timing Gimmicks center around gameplay that involves timing. Typically, you have to wait and press a button at a precise time.
Tap Gimmicks center around gameplay that involves button mashing. Typically, you have to rapidly press certain buttons as fast as possible. However, some Tap Gimmicks may only have you mashing at certain intervals.
Speed Gimmicks center around gameplay that involves quick reflexes. Typically, you are given a series of commands that you need to complete within a certain time limit. These commands are usually "puzzle-oriented" and can consist of challenges that involve counting and matching.
Excite Gimmicks center around gameplay that involves memorization. Typically, you are briefly shown a series of inputs. Then these inputs disappear and you have to recreate them.
If you fail the minigame you will still end up dealing a reduced amount of damage, and an alternative attack animation will play. Certain Gimmicks may also inflict a status-ailment on an enemy or temporarily increase your own status. Each Gimmick has a limited number of uses in battle before it needs to be refreshed. All your selected Gimmicks for a certain character will automatically refresh if every one of their equipped Gimmicks runs out of uses. These uses can also be recharged by sleeping. You can temporarily increase the attack power of a Gimmick by increasing its difficulty. Each Gimmick has seven levels of difficulty. You can permanently increase the status of a Gimmick by powering it up with certain items.
As you progress further in the game, you will collect more powerful Gimmicks. Gimmicks can be obtained at the various Hanzo Lab's, or by trading Binkies with Kaizo.
There are 50 unique Gimmicks to collect in the game. Demille has 18, Alesa has 14, Sofubi has 10, and Rellek has 8.
